Welcome to the new school year at Ha’aheo Elementary School. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year. I am committed to helping every child in my class learn, supporting not only their academic needs, but social, emotional and developmental needs as well. I am also pleased to have the help and support of Ms. Jillian Hugues this year as she joins our classroom to complete her final year of the UHH teaching program.
Unfortunately, our community is still being impacted by Covid. Please send your child to school with a mask, a spare, and a beach. When possible, students will be eating lunch outside. I will have them take their towels home on Friday to wash and bring back the following week.
Homework this year will be extra credit. The current body of educational research has shown that homework at the elementary level has little benefit. That being said, time spent with your child engaged in meaningful activities is critical in building upon the base of knowledge they need to readily engage with new material presented in class. Please use this time to enjoy reading with your child, or exploring areas of interest.
While our class takes great pleasure in making sure to acknowledge each child on their birthday, out of respect for children who suffer from food allergies, please do not send any food items (cupcakes, cake, candy etc…) for your child’s birthday. You are more than welcome to send any non-edible items such as pencils, stickers, etc…
Please feel free to communicate any questions or concerns. You can reach me at 974-4111 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
