Hawaiʻiʻs Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program
The Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program (FFVP) is part of the Department of Educationʻs Hawaiʻi Child Nutrition Program, and provides free fruits and vegetables twice a week to students at participating schools. The goals of the program are to expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience, increase their fruit and vegetable consumption, and make a difference in their diets to impact their present and future health. More information about this program can be found here.
At Haʻaheo, our students receive a fresh serving of a different fruit or vegetable each Tuesday and Thursday at recess, and are also provided with fun facts about the fruit of the day. The students looks forward to their new fruit or vegetable each week, and have been able to taste such amazing options as fresh apricots, blueberries, blood oranges, longan, and more! We are so grateful to our PCNC, Mrs. Trisha Hekekia, for organizing the program at our school and bringing this wonderful experience to our students year after year!
