Yesterday we enjoyed a visit from some of the pharmacy students at UH Hilo. They took some time to share the dangers of Tobacco with our students. We definitely learned a lot!
Today we were so lucky to have Mr. Dave Carvalho from the UH Center for the Study of Active Volcanoes come and present to us! The students learned a volcano song, discussed plate techtonics, lava safety, and past and current Big Island flows- they even got to erupt a model volcano! A big mahalo to Mr. Carvalho for such a wonderful presentation!
We had an exciting adventure with our friends in Mrs. Teramoto's class last month! The entire 4th grade took a hike on Kaumana Trail up at the 21 mile marker in order to study phenology and kipuka. We looked at the life cycle of the 'ohia and enjoyed an awesome scavenger hunt looking for the local species that live in kipuka. Our 4th graders had a fantastic time!
