TMT East Hawaii VEX IQ Tournament
On December 5, 2015, students from the After-school Robotics Program, placed 9th overall and 6th for Teamwork Challenge in the TMT East Hawaii VEX IQ Tournament. In the Programming Skills Challenge, our team finished 2nd. The tournament was held at Keaau Elementary and teams consisted of students from 3rd to 8th grade. The Ha'aheo After-school Robotics Program is in it's second year. Last year, we competed in 2015 TMT Astronaut Onizuka Science Day VEX IQ Tournamentand placed 16th in the Teamwork Challenge. We made a lot of progress in the past year.
This year's challenge is called "Bank Shot." Teams can earn points by emptying cutouts on the 4x8 rectangular field, scoring balls in the scoring zone and goals, and by parking their robot(s) on the ramp. There are different challenges at a tournament. In the Teamwork Challenge, two robots from different schools, compete on the same game field as an alliance in 60 second matches. They work collaboratively to score points. Teams also compete in a Robot Skills Challenge where they score points under driver control. There is also a Programming Skills Challenge where the team's robot scores as many points as possible autonomously, without any driver input.
